India Scores Big at International Emmys 2026 With Historic Nominations for Vir Das and 'Real Kashmir Football Club

The international entertainment landscape woke up to major milestones this week as the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the official nominees for the International Emmy Awards 2026. Securing powerful representation on the global stage, India emerged with two prestigious nominations spanning the comedy and drama categories. 

The critically acclaimed web series Real Kashmir Football Club—inspired by the inspiring real-life journey of the valley's first professional football club—officially locked in a nomination under the fiercely contested Drama Series category. Directed by Rajesh Mapuskar and Mahesh Mathai, and starring stellar performances by Manav Kaul and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, the SonyLIV series stands shoulder-to-shoulder with international heavyweights like A Thousand Blows and Careme.

Real Kashmir Football Club is one of my favourite works. I always thought this series deserves much, much more. I am so happy for Team RKFC and their hard work," shared lead actor Manav Kaul following the announcement. 

Meanwhile, powerhouse comedian Vir Das carved his name deeper into television history by landing his third consecutive International Emmy nomination. Das was recognized in the Comedy category for his deeply personal Netflix stand-up special, Vir Das: Fool Volume. Having previously won an International Emmy for Landing in 2023, Das now stands as the only Indian artist to secure three career nominations at the prestigious global awards. 

Reflecting on his surreal achievement, Vir Das noted:

"This special came from a period when I literally lost my voice, so to see something that began in silence travel this far is pretty surreal. For India was the first time I understood that our comedy could find a home on a global stage, Landing gave me an Emmy, and now Fool Volume has brought me back into that conversation."
